I was six years old when I met my first Presentation sister and, for the seven years following, each school year I was greeted by a new and amazing Presentation sister! No wonder Presentation Sisters found a unique place in my heart!
As I drew to the end of high school years, I found myself recalling the influence they had been in my life, and I came to realize perhaps that gift was what God was asking me to bring to others! Almost two years later, after business and college experience, I found myself knocking at the door of Mt St Joseph … and the rest is God’s grace and gift to me!
My early ministry years were spent teaching in grade school, serving as a principal and spending time in community leadership. Eventually, I pursued a degree in special education, with the desire to teach children with special needs about Jesus.
I served in both the New York Archdiocese and the Diocese of Albany as director of special religious education. One of the most grace-filled moments of this ministry occurred when I could finally assure these parents that their child would receive religious instruction and would receive first Communion! It had taken several years of research, many clergy meetings and endless discussions before it became a diocesan reality. With simplified preparation, reception of the sacraments by those with special needs was possible and actually encouraged!
Throughout these ministry years my life was, and continues to be, enriched with countless occasions for spiritual growth and development. How blessed am I to have the time each morning as the sun rises to spend my time in personal prayer, and then to be joined in the Eucharist with Holy Mystery?
I am so grateful for God’s gift of these 70 years! Please join with me in celebrating God’s boundless goodness!
