Sister Barbara Hobbs was born October 31, 1934, to Casper W. and Lou E. Hobbs. She entered the congregation of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in September 1954 and professed final vows in 1962. She had recently moved to Notre Dame du Lac Assisted Living in Worcester with other members of her Presentation community.
After graduating from Hudson High School, Sister Barbara earned a bachelor's in English from Regina Coeli College, Massachusetts. She went on to obtain a master's in library science from Villanova University and also studied spiritual direction and counseling at St. Joseph's College in Connecticut.
Sister taught at schools in Massachusetts and Connecticut. These included, in Massachusetts: St. Leo's, Leominster; St. John's, Clinton; St. Bernard's, Fitchburg; and Holy Family, Fitchburg. In Connecticut she taught at St. Marys, Stamford, and Catholic Middle School, Greenwich.
Following her years as a teacher, Sister Barbara's ministry turned toward spiritual direction and retreat work from Emmaus Spiritual Life Center, Uncasville, Connecticut. She also served on the congregation's leadership team and as co-director of the associate minister's program.
Along with her Presentation community, Sister Barbara is survived by her sister, Barbara Baker, brother, Carlton Hobbs, a niece and two nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 7 prior to the funeral at 10:30 a.m. at Notre Dame du Lac Chapel, 555 Plantation Street, Worcester, Massachusetts. Funernal mass will follow in the chapel.
