Sister Marie (Mary Mercita) Sullivan died at St. Patrick’s Manor in Framingham, Sunday, January 5, 2025.
She was born June 12, 1929, to Bertha (Guertin) and Albert Sullivan in Clinton, Massachusetts. She was a graduate of St. Bernard’s High School in 1946 and entered the Sisters of the Presentation on September 24, 1945. She made her final profession of vows on August 20, 1951.
Sister received a bachelor's in education (Catholic Teachers College), a master's in library science (Kuztown University, Penn.) and certificates of advances studies in Native American studies (Oglala, S.D.), music (Anna Maria College) and cosmetology.
Her ministries included: teaching primary grades within the Dioceses of Worcester and Boston, Massachusetts; Bridgeport, Connecticut; and Providence, Rhode Island. She held the position of librarian at Notre Dame High School and St. Bernard High School in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, and director of library services at Townsend Library in Townsend, Massachusetts.
One of her favorite places was at the Red Cloud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. A talented musician, she was led to teaching piano and recorder to children in schools and through private lessons.
Marie was a lover of nature and enjoyed travel and camping.
Besides her Presentation community, Sister Marie leaves many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, as well as extended family.
She is predeceased by her parents, Bertha and Albert, and her siblings: John J, Albert P, Pauline Sullivan and Corinne Sullivan Scheetz.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Curley-Marchand Funeral Home, West St, Leominster, Massachusetts.
Visitation will be held at 9:15 a.m. prior to the funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Notre Dame du Lac Chapel 555 Plantation St. Worcester, Massachusetts, on Saturday, January 11, 2025. Burial will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Fitchburg.
