Sister Mary Luke Mulraney entered eternal life on Friday, November 24, 2023, at Notre Dame Nursing Long Term Care Center, Worcester, Mass. She was 97 years old.
Sister Mary Luke (Margaret Mary) Mulraney was born on January 31, 1926, in Providence, R.I., and grew up in Holy Trinity Parish, Central Falls, R.I. She entered the congregation of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in September 1942 and made her final profession of vows in August 1948. She graduated from Catholic Teacher’s College in Providence, R.I. in 1960, earning a bachelor’s in education. Sister also received a certificate of advanced graduate study in library science from Regis College in Weston, Mass., in 1970.
Sister’s ministry as teacher/ librarian brought her to several schools in Massachusetts including St. Patrick’s (Whitinsville); St. Mary’s (Ayer); St. Bernard’s High School, Holy Family (Fitchburg); and St. Louis (Webster). In Connecticut she served at St. Mary’s (Stamford) and St. Catherine’s (Riverside). She also served at Holy Trinity School in Central Falls, R.I. In addition, Sister Mary Luke served the congregation as archivist for many years before retiring.
As her health began to fail, she resided at St. Patrick’s Manor, Framingham, Mass., for several years before transferring recently to Notre Dame in Worcester, Mass., where other members of her Presentation congregation reside. Sister is pre-deceased by her parents Luke E. and Elizabeth (Reilley) Mulraney and her sister, Elizabeth Partridge. Along with her Presentation congregation, Sister Mary Luke is survived by three nieces: Maureen Marcoux, Kathleen Burke (John), Marguerite, and two nephews: Thomas Partridge (Patricia), Russell Partridge (Elaine), as well as several grand nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Curley-Marchand Funeral Home, West St., Leominster, Mass.
Gathering in the presence of the body and visitation will be held December 1, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. at Notre Dame du Lac Chapel 555 Plantation St., Worcester, Mass. The funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Fitchburg, Mass.
