Sister Mary Lusk (formerly Sister Mary Jogues Joseph) of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, New Windsor, entered eternal life at home on February 20, 2022, at age 92.
Sister Mary was born in Long Island, N.Y., on September 28, 1929. She professed final vows as a Sister of the Presentation on August 16, 1953. She attended Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School in Brooklyn, N.Y., and graduated from Fordham University with a bachelor’s in education. Sister was a certified chaplain with the NACC.
Over the course of 54 years, Sister Mary taught at St. Frances of Rome, Bronx, N.Y.; St. Lucy, Houma, La.; St. David, La.; St Andrew, Clifton, N.J.; St. John’s, Goshen, N.Y.; St. Raphael’s, Long Island City, N.Y., and St. Rose of Lima, Queens, N.Y. She taught religious education at St. Ignatius Parish, Brooklyn, N.Y. Sister Mary assisted in the infirmary at Mt. St. Joseph, New Windsor, N.Y., and was the director of Catholic pastoral services at Mather Memorial Hospital, Port Jefferson, N.Y. Sister served as a chaplain at St. Agnes Hospital in White Plains, N.Y., and then St. Joseph Hospital, Paterson, N.J. Before retiring, sister worked at The Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains, N.J., for seven years.
Sister Mary was pre-deceased by her parents, Thomas and Anna (Walsh) Burke, and her sister, Jeanne Dealy.
Sister Mary is survived by her nieces and nephews: Mary O’Donnell, Loretta O’Toole, John, Thomas and Robert Dealy; their spouses, children, grandchildren, cousins, many close friends and her Presentation Sisters.
The welcoming prayer and viewing will be held at Mount St. Joseph, 64 Presentation Way, New Windsor, N.Y., on February 23, 2022, at 3:30 p.m., with the wake service at 6:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m., on February 24, 2022, with burial at Mount St. Joseph Cemetery, New Windsor, N.Y. The service on Thursday morning will be live-streamed on our Facebook page on the home page of this website.
