Sister Dorinne (Mary Frederic) Lambert grew up in Rhode Island and met the Sisters of the Presentation at Holy Trinity School. She felt called to join the order and was blessed by the guidance of Sister Eileen Kenny.
“Sister Eileen really helped me along through those year and became my sponsor when I entered,” she shares. “She was very good to me and was really responsible for helping me to enter.”
“I have been happy all these 70 years of vowed life,” Sister says. “There are times when things go wrong but, through prayer, we always got through it.”
Sister ministered in education for most of her life and loved every one of her nearly 50 years in education.
“The grade I liked most was pre-K,” she says. “I would tell a new teacher to always be kind and listen to the child.”
Sister has many wonderful memories of education ministry. One special memory is when a third grader got permission to bring her rabbit to the classroom. “I liked having that rabbit in the room,” she shares. “To me, it was part of science. Kids got to know the rabbit and what it eats how it lives.”
Sister goes on to explain, “I was teaching, but I was also learning from the children. I learned a lot; they really educate you in their own way.”
Community and communal prayer are central to Sister’s religious vocation. “I always loved praying together,” she explains.
With a smile, Sister shares that she enjoys telling jokes because she loves to see people laugh. Her spirit shines through in the twinkle in her eye when she tells a joke, knowing that the best part of the experience is spreading joy and love to those around her.
