In May Sister Dorothy Scesny (center) joined other members of the Worcester Diocesan REC (Residents Encounter Christ) Team in directing a weekend retreat for the residents of the Worcester County House of Correction.
Residents Encounter Christ is a program that provides spiritual enrichment for inmates. Volunteers help inmates to see that Christ lies in each of us. The goal of each retreat is to initiate a change of heart by helping inmates realize the need for change, experience God’s grace and embrace the opportunities of a new day with the Lord.
There have been many successes over the years, including inmates reconnecting with family and those who have come back to provide leadership roles.
Sister Dorothy's work aligns with the congregation's commitment to the Gospel values of hope, justice, freedom and human dignity and the mission to act for and with the poor and oppressed of our world.
