Sister Elizabeth Burke of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, New Windsor, entered eternal life at St. Cabrini Nursing Home on January 4, 2022, at age 91.   

Sister Elizabeth was born in Long Island City, N.Y., on July 6, 1930. She professed final vows as a Sister of the Presentation on April 17, 1955. She attended St. Michael’s high school in Manhattan and graduated from Fordham University with a bachelor's in education and College of St. Rose with a master's in education. 

Over the course of 55 years, Sister Elizabeth taught at St. Frances of Rome, Bronx, N.Y.; St. Paul the Apostle, Yonkers, N.Y.; St. Mary’s, Kingston, N.Y.;  Mt. St. Joseph, New Windsor, N.Y.; St. Raphael, Long Island City, N.Y.; and St. Helen, Howard Beach, N.Y. She served as pastoral care in Cabrini Medical Center, Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.; Wyckoff Hospital, Brooklyn, N.Y.; and Mt. St. Joseph Infirmary, New Windsor, N.Y. Sister Elizabeth served as principal at St. Raphael’s and St. Paul’s. Sister was also a chaplain at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, N.Y., and the outreach coordinator at Holy Rosary Parish in Bronx, N.Y., until her retirement in 2007.

Sister Elizabeth was pre-deceased by her parents Francis and Elizabeth (Mullooly) Burke, and her brothers Francis and Martin.  

Sister Elizabeth is survived by her sister-in-law Rita Burke, as well as nieces and nephews.

The welcoming prayer and viewing will be held at Mount St. Joseph, 64 Presentation Way, New Windsor, N.Y., on Thursday, January 6 at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m., and burial at Mount St. Joseph Cemetery, New Windsor, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sr. Elizabeth’s name to: Sisters of the Presentation, 84 Presentation Way, New Windsor, NY 12553.
