Sister Mary Andre was born in New York, N.Y., on March 23, 1923. She entered the Sisters of the Presentation on January 23, 1944. She professed final vows on August 15, 1949. She graduated from Commerce High School in Yonkers, N.Y., and earned a bachelor’s in education from Manhattan College.
During her 63 years of ministry Sister Mary Andre taught in various locations: St. Frances of Rome, Holy Rosary and Our Lady of Solace Schools, Bronx; St. Michael and St. Jude Schools, Manhattan; St. Mary’s School, Fishkill; St. Paul the Apostle School, Yonkers; and Mt. St. Joseph Academy, New Windsor. Sister also taught in the Brooklyn Diocese at St. Rose of Lima School, Rockaway Beach, and in the Paterson Diocese at St. Andrew School, Clifton, N.J. In addition to teaching, she served as the librarian at Holy Rosary School and was the maintenance supervisor at Mount St. Joseph, New Windsor.
In addition to her family of the Sisters of the Presentation, Sister Mary Andre is survived by her many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Sister Mary Andre was predeceased by her parents, William J. and Catherine (Corbett) Murphy, her twin brother, William, and her sister, Eleanor Holder.
Wake services will be held at Mount St. Joseph Chapel, 64 Presentation Way, New Windsor, N.Y., on Monday, April 11, 2022, from 3:30 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Mount St. Joseph Chapel. Burial will follow at Mount St. Joseph Cemetery, New Windsor, N.Y.
