Sr. Elizabeth Fortune of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, New Windsor, entered eternal life at Mount St. Joseph on November 10, 2021, at age 87.
Sr. Elizabeth was born in New York City on June 17, 1934. She professed final vows as a Sister of the Presentation on April 26, 1959. She attended St. Michael’s HS in Manhattan and graduated from Fordham University with a BS in Education.
Over the course of 58 years, Sr. Elizabeth taught at Holy Rosary in the Bronx; Our Lady of Solace, Bronx; St. Mary, Kingston; St. John, Goshen; and St. Andrews, Clifton. In 1989, Sr. Elizabeth served as the secretary and bookkeeper for the Capuchin Friars Development Office at St. John’s in NYC until her retirement in 2014.
Sr. Elizabeth was pre-deceased by her parents John and Florence (O’Neill) Fortune, and her brother John and sister-in-law Margaret Fortune; her sisters Joan Carpenteri and her husband John; her sister Barbara Higgins and her husband Richard.
Sr. Elizabeth is survived by many nieces and nephews, and her cousins Margaret and Edward Donovan.
