The Vows of a Presentation Sister. . .
Presentation Sisters take the vows of poverty, consecrated celibacy and obedience, allowing us to serve God in a unique way, within the context of community.
Poverty. Sisters agree to share income and possessions in common. Living a life of simplicity, and pooling resources challenge the view that only material possessions can bring happiness. Our detachment from preoccupation with goods and security frees us to witness to God’s loving care for the poor.
Consecrated Celibacy. The vow of consecrated celibacy expresses our love for one another and the people of God. It enables us to focus our hearts and energy on God and service to others. Compassionate love for each other in community, and for all people of God, is our primary witness in the Church.
Obedience. We vow to listen to one another and to God in personal and shared prayer, in dialogue, and in supportive community life. We respond to God’s word for the common good of all. We integrate our personal gifts into the Congregation’s mission in the Church.
Prayer, faith and sharing our lives in common energize us with zeal for mission and ministry.
